the man who never stops giving back
Preston Swofford rises early each morning, works out, and then starts his shift at St. Edward Mercy.  Sounds pretty ordinary until you consider that he's ninety, and he doesn't have to be here.  This is what he lives to do.

artosphere: blending art and nature
The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville has a series of events planned for its second ever Artosphere series.  If you like music, theater, art, biking, or gardening, there's something for you.

the year of spherical thinking
Matt Miller is a follower of spherical living, a concept he uncovered while talking to his traveling buddy in Morocco.  The philosophy is a simple one: we start out rounded, untouched by our environment, unscathed by negativity, not yet influenced by the expectations of others.  That is our pure spherical state.

horseshoe canyon ranch
Barry Johnson sits with one boot propped on his knee and leans back on his leather couch at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch lodge near Jasper, Arkansas. He’s facing the mounted head of an enormous Wyoming Elk, and his back is turned towards large windows that show off towering rocks.

the future of gardening
Most home gardeners are waiting for the final freeze of the season so they can head outdoors, start up the tiller and turn over the earth.  But for a growing number of others, tomatoes are already ripening on the vines.  You’re thinking greenhouse right now, aren’t you.

The late business mogul Don Tyson, of Tyson Foods, ate lunch here.  And get this, the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Policy for drug giant Pfizer used to be a cook here. Restaurant On The Corner and Grill, or as Fayetteville locals call it “ROTC,” has a rich history.

upon his exit
I am surprised to see that I can still look up at a winter’s tree with the blue sky behind. You are gone but I can see the same view as before. I did not know, I did not fathom life without you.

bring your vises to church

Bring your vises to church. That was the request Danny Lynch made to his fellow Fort Smith Flyfishers members.

You’ve probably already noticed that he said vises, not vices. He wasn’t recruiting sinners, but fly tiers for classes at First Christian Church in Fort Smith. Danny volunteered to teach a five week class on fly tying for members of his church.

the dance

Betty Farmer, who is eighty-one, sits on her sofa, hands in her lap, her posture impeccable.  As she rises and crosses the room, there is a grace to it, her head held high, her feet all but gliding across her living room floor.
